Okay, I am going to type up the lot of Spelunking Through Hell from Thomas’s perspective (all of this would be set a few years in the future from Thomas on the train’s perspective). I don’t know how literal versus figurative Bruno’s precognition is, but I put a few scenes that could be used for emotional tone at the end.

Possible Scenes

If you want something confusing or upsetting Either the physical fight between Thomas and Alice before he is clear that she is who she says she is (and she’s pissed off at him because she’s thought he’s become some kind of evil overlord) or the breaking out of the bottle universe.

For the fight, Thomas will probably interpret it as ‘someone who looks like my wife is trying to kill me again’, since he’s implied this wasn’t the first time that he’s faced someone pretending to be Alice to get past his guard. Hence why it took so long to accept the real Alice was who she says she was.

For the spell, this can go either way, since Thomas might be able to tell what he’s doing, and that it could lead to him getting his people out, but the fact the donor resembles his wife, and he’s taking a lot more energy than he normally does to power the spell is concerning. It does imply that shit is going to get steadily worse such that the risks for breaking out become better than the risks for staying.

If you want something uplifting. The final scene with Alice and Thomas briefly stopping home and Thomas seeing his son for the first time in 50-odd years. Thomas is the sort of person who has trouble believing good things, so there'd need to be specific details that he doesn't think anyone would know or even guess, but I can provide those[1]. (Note: Bruno may have to bring in those details early on, or Thomas might be 'I don't think that's a very likely future for me'. Which might be novel for what is clearly a happy event.)

[1] The fact that the allies they came back to get weren't any of the human (or humanoid) family members, but representatives of a species of intelligent talking mice that created a religion based around descendants of Alice's paternal grandmother is pretty memorable. Even in-universe, the few people who recognize the species are all 'I thought those were extinct' on seeing them.
